Plant Profile: Banksia Birthday Candles

Birthday Candles is a fantastic looking and really easy to maintain Australian plant. This native is a cultivar of a local Victorian species and is perfect for backyards. Planted en masse, this low shrub provides an amazing effect in any garden, particularly when you mix it with its many varieties.

Common names:  Birthday Candles

Flower colours:  Birthday Candles are yellow but there are other great cultivars which produce various coloured flowers too. Check out Cherry Candles, Black Magic, Bush Candles and Giant Candles, to only name a few. 

When it flowers: Autumn through to Winter

Size: Approximately 0.5m high and up to 1m wide

Effort to maintain: Super simple, and apart from dead heading the flowers you just need to feed it and water it in the hot weather to be rewarded with an amazing looking low shrub.
